Esterházy-quintet
The Esterházy Quintet is a young innovative group, specialising in bringing to life the music of the 18th century, including masterpieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn, with the original sound of historical instruments. These highly acclaimed musicians invite you into a colourful journey through the charming melodies of Mozart's Flute Quartet, and the clever wit of Haydn's ''Surprise'' Symphony, to the dark and dramatic sounds of Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue.
They are excited to present to you a program built on works of renowned masters, who enjoyed the high point of their musical careers towards the end of the 18th century. Mozart and Haydn have held their pedestal as undisputed masters in the canon of classical music up until this day. Equally fascinating however, is the exploration of some of their very successful contemporaries, who’s music was forgotten for some time after their lifespans, but is now being rediscovered. The viennese musician Johann Georg Albrechtsberger is an absolute gem of the classical era. He was a member of the musical ensemble of the Habsburg court, active in the musical environment of Vienna not only as a composer but also as a musical theoretician. His connection to the Viennese scene and the importance of his work in this circle are underlined by friendly relationships with Mozart and Haydn as well as the fact that he was a teacher of 34 years younger Ludwig van Beethoven.
