In 1992 the “Salzburger Konzertgesellschaft” was founded in its original manner. What began with Sunday Matinees in the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace developed to be one of Salzburg’s and Vienna’s largest and certainly most versatile concert organizations to this day.

The Mozart Dinner Concert gave the SKG its first cultural and touristic highlight in 1996. Held in the splendid Baroque Hall of the Stiftskeller St. Peter, and combining Mozart’s music with a festive 18th century menu, the concert was an immediate success. Thus far, more than 300.000 guests have attended this event. Between 2005 and 2009, we adapted this concert to also be performed at lunchtime.

During 1998 and 2003, the SKG organized the traditional Baroque festival in Hellbrunn where operas, chamber music, drama, pantomime, cabaret, literature and more took place on a summer weekend.

The SKG has produced numerous operatic productions such as the Baroque „Pimpinone“ by G. Telemann, „Orfeo“ by Claudio Monteverdi (performed in the historic Steintheater of Hellbrunn) as well as one of Mozart‘s earliest works „Bastien and Bastienne“ (performed in Heckentheater in Mirabell Palace). Through the years, our musicians and staff have collaborated with renowned ensembles such as the Kings Consort, the Palladian Ensemble and soloists such as Pepe Romero, Irena Grafenauer, Peter Riebl, Radovan Vlatkovic and Wolfgang Meyer.

In 2006, Mozart’s 250th birthday was used as an opportunity to found the Orchestra & Ensemble 1756. The ensemble devotes itself to the interpretation of musical works composed between 1750 and 1800. The unique Mozart sound originates from intensive work with the style of the 18th century, historic instruments and a balanced formation of musicians. An audience member once remarked: “The only thing missing is the original Mozart air.”

Since 2006, the SKG has had an anchor in Vienna, organizing more than 100 highly regarded choral and orchestral concerts in St. Charles Church every year. Works by Mozart, Beethoven and Vivaldi are performed weekly at the highest level of musical integrity on historical instruments.

In addition to our artist’s commitment and development of cultural tourism concepts, we also operate our own CD label, Atlantis Resurrexit.

Palace Concerts Mirabell in the Marble Hall began in 2016, which entails app. 250 different performances by chamber groups per year.

The company prides itself on the historical and high-class venues in which the concerts take place. It is not only about the beautiful music; it is important that the venue’s stunning atmosphere transports the audience into the time period of the musical selections: The Carabinieri hall at Salzburg "Residenz" Palace, Hellbrunn Palace, the Marble Hall at Mirabell Palace, the Baroque Hall at St. Peter Restaurant or in Munich Nymphenburg Palace and Schleißheim palace complex.

Additionally, the SKG has taken part in several guest performances in Austria and internationally.

Since 2015, the SKG organizes over 600 concerts, employs several full-time staff members and holds about 150 musicians under permanent contract. Konstantin Hiller is the artistic director and co-founder of this organization. He additionally contributes to the company using his conducting brilliance in his Orchestra 1756 or playing harpsichord with the Ensemble 1756.
